Artist’s Statement

I have spent most of my years in art study developing my technical skills in various mediums (mostly pastels, acrylics, and oils) through paintings and drawings that simply portray the beauty of nature. I am a scholar of pleasing composition and color, and I strive to produce exceptional balance and harmony in my work.  I like to vary my use of the brush and other painting tools to create movement and texture where it is appropriate.  I experiment with the juxtaposition of abstracted flat shapes, loose broken patches of color, and varying thicknesses of paint with realistic form in some of my compositions.

My adoration of the human form is evident in my work since I see references to the relationship of humans to nature — no matter if it is of the landscape, vignette, or figural genre.  I have gradually been building ideas from my personal experiences for new paintings that express my beliefs and sometimes satirical views of the world using symbolic elements and mythological characters.
